It’s April again and that means it’s time for the A to Z challenge and this year, my theme for the A to Z Challenge is characters and narrators.
Gumshoe – this reminds me of Humphrey Bogart, sucking on his cigarette as Sam Spade. Where would all of those dewy-eyed dames with fabulous hats and echoing high heels be without our hardnosed detectives or private eyes? Who knows, maybe it would be worthwhile to write about one of those silver-screen ladies solving crimes – I don’t know about you, but I love a good change-up now and then.
Favorite gumshoes:
- Veronica Mars (All the snark, smarts, and ingenuity make her my absolute, all-time favorite gumshoe of all time)
- Sam Spade (from the Maltese Falcon, and OMG if you haven’t watched this movie, you need to)
- Stephanie Plum (Okay, technically she’s a bounty hunter, but there’s a lot of detective work involved. Plus, she’s hilarious.)
- Aimée Leduc (Not only is she an awesome, high-heel wearing private investigator, through her adventures, we also see bits of Paris! It’s a win-win, people)
“…dewy-eyed dames with fabulous hats and echoing high heels…” Love this description! And I agree with you on Stephanie Plum. She’s just so darned likeable. 🙂

Stephanie Plum is so likeable and hilarious. Although I don’t think the movie did the series justice. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Nope, it unfortunately didn’t. My husband liked the movie, though, and he never read the books. So maybe we’re biased? 🙂

Ha! I love the word “gumshoe,” good one! I’m going to have to use that in my next book–a mystery series and I haven’t even thought of using gumshoe.

Yay! Thanks! It is kind of a fun, old fashion word, isn’t it? 🙂

Oh I love the gumshoe. The noir setting, the hard-boiled inner dialogue…it all makes for awesomeness. My faves are Felix Castor and Harry Dresden, but they’re super nerdy and magical. The old 1920’s era gumshoes, with the red herrings, the leggy dames, and the fedoras…those are the definition of classic.

Hmmm Felix Castor and Harry Dresden are ones I haven’t heard of before, but I’ll have to check them out. 🙂 and lol, from your descriptions of the gumshoe era, I feel like you should write a noir detective pieces. 🙂
