It’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), also known as the most writerly time of the year. For those of you who don’t know, it’s when many people challenge themselves to write a 50,000 word novel in a single month.
Now, you might be thinking – what would I write?
I believe that everyone has at least one good story inside of them. You can write the story that is so uniquely you that only you can tell it. Be brave, be bold, and be vulnerable on the page. Even if you never even share it with anyone – it will be liberating.
Still unsure and wondering – what can I possibly create with my words?
Well friends, the answer is simple: anything. To borrow a quote from C.S. Lewis (and I do LOVE quotes): “You can make anything by writing.”

Not only is that quote pretty, it’s also true. Think about it – writers have created countless worlds and characters from their imagination for as long as we’ve been able to speak. And why should you be any different? You can create anything you want on a blank page – that’s the beauty of it being blank. 😉
Now, I know we’re in the time of COVID and I know it’s hard to imagine that anything positive can happen right now. But truly – you can create amazing experiences with words. And if you feel like you’re not ready for a full novel, then that’s okay too. You can write a collection of short stories, poems, or even random journal entries.
Just start and see where it takes you.
So write, y’all! May your verbs be strong and your characters lively!
Very uplifting, and it’s all true.
