And now we shall discuss my thoughts on classic literature. Imagine, we’re at coffee shop and I’m waxing poetic about my plan to read classic lit or in this case, I’m recalling the literature of my childhood.
On Where the Red Fern Grows –
Short summary: I read this story in the seventh grade and I’m still recovering. It’s about a boy and his two loyal dogs…and a fucking fern that will make me cry. Enjoy with tissues.
What about “Old Yeller?”
Don’t read it. It’s heartbreaking.
There were so many more books like this, so traumatic to read as a kid.
I almost felt sorry for myself that your wonderful post made me remember all this.
But then, of course, I remembered a child’s heartbreak about innocent beauty.
Thank you for your post.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. “Old Yeller” is another good example of a story that makes you cry.
But to be fair, those books were really a gateway into the amazing world of reading – even if they did break our hearts. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
